Luxury isn’t necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Indian railways and trains. Train rides in India are generally overly crowded but cheap and fast and have mostly been uncomfortable. But when we think of luxury and relaxing journeys, the first thing that comes to our mind is first-class lounges in aeroplanes. However, you couldn’t be more wrong about this. The Indian railways are the fourth largest train network in the world and there are definitely some opulent surprises in store that you didn’t know of. Managed by IRCTC and Indian Railways there are a total of 7 luxury trains in India namely Palace on Wheels, The Deccan Odyssey, Maharajas’ Express, Golden Chariot, Royal Orient Train, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, and Fairy Queen Express.

Tourists and passengers who wish to explore the rich cultural heritage of India in the lap of luxury can try these elite luxury trains. Their grandeur is evident from mind-boggling interiors, lavish gastronomical fare, majestic ambience, stringent security arrangements, and almost everything luxurious you can imagine.

One of the seven most luxurious trains in the world is the Royal Palace on Wheels. This train has hosted the first lady of India, many other renowned dignitaries and American ambassadors. It has a super-deluxe cabin, which costs 12.4 lakhs for a seven-night journey all-inclusive across the state of Rajasthan.

This luxurious train was launched in 1982 by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, in collaboration with Indian Railways. The aim was to provide its guests with an opportunity to experience pomp and luxury just like the Maharajas in the old days did. The luxurious train proceeds on a 7-night journey to places like Jaipur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ranthambore, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, and Agra. The train halts at all these destinations in the state of Rajasthan with a special itinerary for its passenger to explore the city.
